Heeding (somewhat reluctantly to be true) the call of the Motherland he goes to the barracks where he is to accomplish his military duty. Posted to Corporal Bourrache's platoon he is surprised to meet there...Joseph, his own servant. Making blunder after blunder Jean gets hazed by his comrades and punished ......

法籍导演都爱拍《懒兵》，雷诺阿1928年拍过，沃尔施勒1933年拍过，里弗斯1950年拍过，如果再算上1912年的短片，此片至少是第五个版本。
