- Barry Manilow's hit song is the inspiration for this movie. The film opens in 1948 with Manilow starring as an aspiring songwriter, Tony. Working as a pianist in a bar, he meets Lola (Annette O'Toole) who wants to make it in show business. Tony is immediately smitten with the beautiful woman.
